GREENLINE FISHING GEAR A/S SUPPORTED BY DANISH FISHERIES AGENCY

Greenline Fishing Gear A/S and Andersen Consult secure financial support from Danish Fisheries Agency. In a close collaboration based on Greenline’s innovative and market changing selection tools for trawl fishing, it is now made possible with the financial support to conduct critical tests in American waters where fish inspection is the most strictly controlled fisheries in the world. The fishermen are accompanied with inspectors monitoring that everything is complying and reported within the legislation. If the skippers are not operating strictly as the legislation prescribes, it has severe consequences.

Developing new tools for the fishing industry is a tough profession, however, as Karsten Hjelm, CEO and partner in Greenline, says: “We need to use our seafood resources as best as possible. With our selectivity device, the quota utilization can easier get used as planned for and has a minimal waste of the wrong species and sizes. Also an optimizing of the consumption of the quota, by using selectivity devices, improves the company’s financial bottom line.

Greenline and Andersen Consult jointly took up the challenge of securing funds for the project since the topic of selection is of high importance to minimise waste of fish resources. Karsten Hjelm states: “We are developers of fishing gear, not financiers. The cooperation with Andersen Consult was a good match for us, we could concentrate on our specialties and they completely took over on the funding issue. A perfect cooperation achieving the planned result”. From Andersen Consult, Mads Riis states “we are naturally always happy when we deliver on expectations. This project deserves all the support it can get and it is not only a concern for the fishing community to invest in selection technology. It is a matter for us all to support the provision of the right tools to safeguard the fishing habitat as well as securing the supply of seafood”.

The project is now entering the execution phase with testing’s in Bering Sea, and the results will lead to completing the product. As a result, Denmark will be benefitted with export, job creation and standing out as the frontrunner concerning new developments in fishing technology thanks to Greenline's initiative.
