IFU provides advisory services and risk capital to Danish companies wishing to do business in developing countries and emerging markets. They help to establish companies that provide a bottom line profit and have derived positive development effects for employees, partners and society. Their sustainability policy ensures that the companies they invest in maintain high environmental, social and governance standards.

IFU invests on a commercial basis by committing equity capital or by providing loans or guarantees to project companies with Danish investors or a Danish interest. The purpose is to contribute to economic and social development in the host countries and enhance the opportunities of Danish trade and industry in new emerging markets. IFU and IFU Managed Funds have co-invested with Danish companies in more than 1200 companies in 100 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and parts of Europe. This makes IFU Denmark’s most experienced investor when it comes to direct investment in developing countries and emerging markets.

IFU is managed by a board appointed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The day-to-day management is performed by IFU’s managing director. Furthermore, IFU has an extensive network of external advisers with great know-how and management experience from companies in Denmark and abroad.

IFU can invest in all Danish companies that meet their four basic conditions:
1. A Danish investor or Danish interest* is needed in the project in the host country;
2. The business operation must be deemed to be commercially viable;
3. Projects must have a positive development impact in the host country;
4. The host country must be on the list of developing countries eligible for IFU investments.
